The Uyghurs, a Muslim population in China's Xinjiang region, have been identified by the United Nations and rights organizations as a group that is being repressed.

In 2021, the United States, United Kingdom and Canada said China engages in forced labour, mass internment in internment camps, forced sterilisations and other abuses against Uyghurs. The EU imposed sanctions on China for their treatment of Uyghurs.

China has dismissed the claims as lies.

The move was announced on Weibo, a popular social media platform in the country. The Wall Street Journal reported on the move byTesla into China.

CNBC translated a post on the Weibo account that said the UrumqiTesla Center was open. This location is the first of its kind in Xinjiang. It will help users of the region enjoy the experience of one-stop service.

On that same day, a Weibo post said: ”#inanewdirection UrumqiTesla Center has officially opened! On the last day of the year, we meet in the far west. Let's start the journey to pure electric in 2022. It is possible to encounter even more beauty.

The phrases were used in Chinese. The first half of the region's name is called Xinjiang.

Many social media users in China appreciated the posts ofTesla. The move was met with outrage in the West.

In June 2021, NBC News reported that Chinese authorities in the western region of Xinjiang have been rounding up women and men from the Uighur, Kazakh and Kyrgyz ethnic minorities and detaining them in camps designed to rid them of terrorist or extremist leaning.

More than one million Uighurs and other minorities from the region are believed to be held in internment camps, where they are forced to study Marxism, work in factories and face abuse, according to human rights groups and first-hand accounts. Beijing says these re-education camps are necessary to fight extremists.
