Iran wants Trump tried for the assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, and says it will take revenge if there is no trial

If Donald Trump isn't put on trial for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, Iran will take revenge, according to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The top commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Soleimani, was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad on January 3, 2020. Iran's foreign policy in the Middle East was steered by the military figure.
Raisi called for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to be tried in an Islamic court. "If Trump and Pompeo are not tried in a fair court for the crime of killing General Soleimani, Muslims will take their revenge," Raisi said.

Raisi said in a speech on Monday that God's ruling must be carried out against the then-president of the United States if he is to be tried and judged under the law of retribution.

He said that the hand of revenge will emerge from the Muslim nation if the US does not act.

Iran submitted a letter to the UN Security Council accusing the US and Israel of being involved in the attack that killed Soleimani. The strike was carried out in self-defense, according to the Trump administration.

The prosecutor-general said that Trump was at the top of the list of 127 suspects.

Iran's Islamic laws allow the family of a murder victim to forgive the murderer and accept financial compensation.

Iranians commemorated the second anniversary of Soleimani's death on Monday. Agence France-Presse reported that thousands of people gathered in Tehran's largest prayer hall to honor Soleimani. In Iraq, people chant "Death to America".

Two suicide drones were shot down by coalition forces in Iraq. One of the drones had "Soleimani's revenge" written on it.
