Peter Wright was playing in his third World Darts Championship final.
Peter Wright came back to beat Michael Smith in the final of the World Darts Championship.
Wright fought back to win three sets in a row after Smith had taken the 10th set.
Only six players have ever won the title twice, and the Scot is the only one to do it twice.
Wright raced into a 2-0 lead before Smith came back to take the lead at 4-5.
Wright hit back with eight legs in a row at one point to win the game and avenge his first final defeat on Smith.
The 51-year-old won a half a million dollars in prize money after winning his second title in 2020.
Wright is now only £15,250 behind Gerwyn Price in the world darts ranking system.
Smith broke Wright's throw in the third leg of the third set with a superb 167 finish, after Wright had won the first two sets.
Wright missed two darts at the double that would have put him in front at the first break. Smith took advantage of Wright's misses to nail double 10 and level the match at 2-2.
Wright came back from the break with a new set of darts and held his throw to go 3-2 up, despite Smith throwing his 72nd 180 of the tournament to break Gary Anderson's previous record.
Smith won two straight sets to lead the match for the first time at 4-3 before another crucial moment with the Englishman leading 4-5.
In the 10th set, Wright was two legs down before winning three in a row to level the match.
The Scot won the 11th set without a response and then won two more to move within one leg of victory.
Wright hit double 12 to win the match and become a two-time world champion after Smith stopped the rot in the 12th set.
