Williams said on his account that he was entering the transfer portal, but that he would keep the Sooners as an option.

Williams passed for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdown and four pick ups after taking over as the Sooners' starter. Rattler moved to South Carolina last month.

Williams, a true freshman this past season, said in his tweet that he came to Oklahoma with a game plan but with all of the recent changes, he needs to figure out what is the right path for him moving forward.

Williams said that he could stay at Oklahoma as he goes through the process. He explained that as a student-athletes, he could only speak to other schools if he entered the portal, and that was the only way to find out who might offer the best preparation and development for his future career.

The Sooners replaced Lincoln Riley at the end of November with a new defensive line coach in the form of Venables. Venables brought in Jeff Lebby from Ole Miss as the Sooners' offensive coach.

Venables and Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione released a joint statement on Monday that said they respect the right of the player to explore his options after key staff changes.

Lebby is referred to as one of the most elite offensive coordinators and quarterback developers in the country. Lebby was a key player in Matt Corral's development.

The quarterback threw for three touchdown in the Alamo Bowl, as the Sooners raced past Oregon 47-32, capping an 11-2 season and giving interim coach Bob Stoops a victory in his first game.
