Rattler is the only quarterback to transfer from Oklahoma.
After Rattler struggled with consistency during the 2021 campaign, the starting signal-caller was decided to enter the transfer portal.
The person is Caleb Williams.

According to NCAA rules, the only way I can speak with other schools and see who may offer the best preparation and development for my future career is by entering the portal. Staying at OU will be an option as I begin this process.
Carl spoke with Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports about what the family was looking for with this move.
Pete Thamel replied.
>
Carl Williams is a professional. When he becomes a pro, we want him to be ready to play. College prepares you for your career. His career path is professional football. We want him to be ready for that time.

The sudden changes this season sent shockwaves through Sooner Nation and were hard for the whole team, according to Williams.
It is putting it mildly.
Lincoln Riley is the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners and they are on a short list of realistic Heisman Trophy candidates. The Sooners' narrow wins over Nebraska, West Virginia, Kansas State, Texas and Kansas suggested the ceiling was limited, and their losses to Oklahoma State and Baylor dropped them from the College Football Playoff discussion.
Rattler lost his starting job and moved to South Carolina, Riley took the head coach position with USC, and the program hired Venables as the new head coach.
When it comes to keeping Williams as the starting quarterback, Venables has a major recruiting battle on his hands.
Venables and Castiglione released a statement saying they respect Williams' decision but still believe OU provides him the best opportunity to develop as a player and realize his goals for college and beyond.

Whether or not the Sooners can keep Williams will likely have a big impact on how the campaign unfolds.
He added six touchdown on the ground and threw for 21 more in a single season, making him a player who can hurt opposing defenses with his arm and legs. Williams was expected to be the face of the program for the immediate future, especially with Rattler gone, and he already started living up to the expectations that came with being a 5-star recruit.
Losing him would be a big blow to the program.
