Hours after the Raiders returned from a last-second victory at the Indianapolis Colts that kept their playoff hopes alive, a player was arrested on a drunken driving charge.
Two months and one day after receiver Henry Rugg III was involved in a fiery high-speed car crash that claimed the life of a woman and her dog, the arrest of another player, 22-year-old Hobbs. Josh Jacobs was arrested for drunk driving one day shy of a year ago.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department received a call at 4:09 a.m. about a driver asleep inside of a vehicle parked on the exit ramp of a parking garage. The driver was identified as 22-year-old Nathan Hobbs. He failed the field sobriety test. He was arrested for driving under the influence at the Clark County Detention Center.
The Raiders said they were aware of the incident.
The organization has been in contact with local law enforcement and is in the process of gathering more information. We will not have any further comment at this time.
The Raiders interim coach was asked in his weekly media conference if alcohol and decision-making had been a point of emphasis to the team.
"I feel good about saying they've been hit over the face with things of that nature," said a frustrated Bisaccia. "We're very aware of the city in which we live, so I'll leave it at that and we'll see what it looks like at the end of the week."
A fifth-round draft pick out of Illinois, Hobbs has been a revelation for the Raiders as a nickel corner and is a candidate for many all-rookie teams with his 67 tackles, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and a sack.
The Raiders will play host to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night at Allegiant Stadium, where they will have their first winning season since 2002. If the Colts lose at Jacksonville and the Pittsburgh Steelers lose at Cleveland, the Raiders can get their second playoff spot since 2002 with a win over the San Diego. If the Colts lose at Jacksonville, the Raiders and Bolts can get it with a tie.
The Raiders have already dealt with a number of issues, including the email scandal, the Rugg wreck, and the cut of defensive back Damon Arnette, and how the team might not let the Hobbs situation distract them.
"We've learned how to deal with distraction around here, as far as the distraction goes," he said. We're disappointed in the news. I don't know all the facts. I'll be able to comment when I get more information about what's going to happen with that.
