For several months now, the Chase Freedom Flex credit card and Chase Freedom unlimited credit card have been offering elevated welcome bonuses. Since it is a new year, I wanted to remind you that you could be earning up to 9x points on your grocery store spending in the first quarter.
20K points and 5x points on groceries.
Both the Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited offer two-part bonuses.
After spending $500 on purchases within the first three months, you can earn 20,000 points.
If you spend up to $12,000 in the first year, you can earn 5x points on grocery store purchases.
The standard offer is 20,000 points, while the second part of the bonus is worth 5x points. You can earn up to 60,000 points by spending $12,000 on groceries.
Chase has typical application rules. The Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited are separate products that you could earn both of them for. If you haven't received a new cardmember bonus in the past 24 months, you're eligible for the bonus on either card.

You can earn up to 9x points on grocery store spending.
You can earn 5x points with groceries stores and eBay in the first quarter of 2022, if you spend less than $2,500. If you applied for the Chase Freedom Flex, you would be able to earn 9x points on the first $1,500 spent on groceries, and then 5x points for subsequent spending up to the $12,000 limit in the first year.

The welcome bonus and the bonus categories have 5x points. The reason you earn 9x points instead of 10x points is because you get 4x bonus points with both offers. You are earning 1x base points per dollar spent, and then you are earning 4x bonus points twice.

It makes sense to hold onto the two no annual fee cards as part of a larger Chase credit card strategy.

1.5x points on all purchases.

5x points are equivalent to 5% cash back, and this quarter the card is even offering 5x points at grocery stores, which could be stacked with this welcome bonus.

3x points at restaurants are equivalent to 3% cash back.

Bonus points can be earned in rotating categories.
These cards can be used to earn cash back. I prefer another way to use them. Points earned on the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points, which can be used to redeem for airline and hotel stays.

The value of the rewards increases by 70% when I value them at 1.7 cents each.
The Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited will give you 20,000 points and a $200 cash back if you complete minimum spending and 5x points on groceries for the first year.
