Sources told ESPN that Klay Thompson will make his return against Cleveland on Sunday after a two-year absence due to injuries.

The Warriors will play back-to-back games in Dallas and New Orleans on Wednesday and Thursday, so a final decision on Thompson's debut is expected to be made.

There's increased optimism that Thompson will return in Sunday's game, despite the Warriors having targeted two home dates in January.

Thompson tore his left knee in Game 6 of the NBA Finals and tore his right ankle in a November 2020 workout.

Thompson will return to the starting lineup immediately, according to Steve Kerr. The Warriors will travel to Dallas and New Orleans this week, then return to the Bay Area for two days before their game with Cleveland.

Thompson played in three game-length scrimmages for Santa Cruz of the G League last month. He's been working to improve his conditioning as much as possible before he rejoins the Warriors, who have the NBA's best record.

Draymond Green told reporters that they were looking forward to having Klay back. That makes this team even better. Nobody is expecting it to be seamless. You want to make it as seamless as possible, but there is no guarantee.
