Apple's market cap passed $3 trillion on Monday, more than a year after it surpassed the $2 trillion mark and three years after it surpassed $1 trillion.

The success of Apple is due in large part to the success of the iPhone, which is a cash cow for the company. Apple's services and Mac divisions have reported all-time highs in their Q4 earnings.

Apple's market cap dipped below it again after hitting the $3 trillion milestone. Apple must have a market cap of at least $3 trillion when the market closes at 4PM to be officially designated as the first publicly-traded company with that valuation.

Apple is the only company with a market cap of more than $1 trillion. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, reached the $1 trillion mark in June. In recent years, Apple has been competing with other companies for the title of the world's most valuable publicly traded company. In July 2020, it passed Saudi Aramco, but was overtaken by Microsoft in October.

Apple's market cap fell below the $3 trillion mark shortly after it passed it.
