Thousands Without Power As Winter Storm Hits Southeast

Washington D.C. and its federal offices are closing down due to a major winter storm that hit the Southeast and is moving up the East Coast.

The National Weather Service predicted that some areas would get up to 12 inches of snow.

Baltimore, Philadelphia, and parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia are expected to get snow.

The Office of Personnel Management said late Sunday that federal offices in the capital would be closed Monday and that non-emergency workers would generally be granted leave.

D.C. Public Schools were going to be closed Monday and Tuesday as part of a mass Covid testing effort, but have been pushed back to Thursday because of the storm.

The Associated Press reported that many Covid-19 testing and vaccination sites in Maryland and Virginia were closed as a result.

More than half the flights out of the D.C. area were delayed or canceled Monday. In New York City, a quarter of flights were delayed or canceled at its three major airports.
