Eve Systems will be showing off its Thread-powered smart shades and the first outdoor camera at the Consumer Electronics Show this week.

The $250 Eve outdoor cam is a floodlight camera with a 157 degree field of view and a 100 degree IR motion detection that will launch in April of 2022. The company has an indoor camera called the Eve Cam.

This is the second HomeKit secure video compatible smart floodlight camera to launch. The Netatmo outdoor camera is the only other option currently available.

The Eve version of the HKSV camera doesn't have a siren, which is an option on the Netatmo one. The Netatmo does not have a built-in microphone and speaker.

The Apple Home app and the Eve app are compatible with the Eve outdoor cam.

The Eve camera is very small, just 6.7 inches high, 2.6 inches wide, and 6.3 inches deep. That is smaller than the Netatmo, but they both have the same aesthetic, but with one built-in, high-powered light and a more streamlined design.

The disadvantage of this is that you don't have as much flexibility with the positioning of the floodlights. The CEO of Eve says the lights are bright.

The best flood camera to buy right now.

The Eve outdoor cam works over 2.4 GHz, which is standard for most floodlight cameras, but it must be hardwired to your home's electrical system. It requires a connection to a HomeKit home hub to process and store video recordings. HomeKit secure video is used to store and process data. Live video is not transmitted to the cloud and recordings are stored in your account.

10 days of video history and the option of smart alert for people, vehicles, pets, and packages can be found in an iCloud Plus account. The Eve cam can be accessed through both the Home app and Eve's own app.

Smart motors are inside Coulisse shades. They work with Apple HomeKit.

Eve is the first to launch Thread-enabled smart shades.

The eagerly anticipated Eve smart MotionBlinds go on sale today. Pricing varies based on fabric and size but starts at $400 per shade. You can install them yourself if you order them through a Coulisse reseller. A complete list of sellers can be found at motionblinds.com/eve.

The Eve MotionBlinds are HomeKit compatible and are the first Thread-powered smart shades. Thread is a low-power mesh networking protocol that provides better speed and reliability than many of the current smart home protocols. The new smart home standard coming in mid-2022 will unify the smart home under one standard and help remove the confusion around which products work with which smart home platforms.

Eve's MotionBlinds will be available first as smart roller shades. They are compatible with HomeKit, Apple's voice assistant, at launch, but aren't the only HomeKit smart shades: Lutron, Hunter Douglas, and Ikea all offer HomeKit options.

The video provided by Eve gives you a good idea of what the MotionBlinds should look like.

The shades are powered by a battery-powered motor and have the option of manual control with a pull cord. The shades can work independently of a smart home network and a phone app.

Most smart window coverings require a separate bridge or gateway, but Eve MotionBlinds don't. If you want to set up HomeKit automations, you will need a HomeKit hub such as the HomePod Mini.

Adding smart shades to a smart home provides a lot of useful things, including light and climate control. They are very expensive.

The shades will be on par with Lutron's Serena line, so Eve's entry into the space isn't a game-changer when it comes to price. They work over a non-proprietary Thread protocol and will be compatible with Matter, so they should be easier to integrate into your smart home than most of the existing offerings. The standard arrives later this year. They are HomeKit only.
