The ability to rate songs in the Apple Music app was lost when the app was updated to the latest version, according to user reports and tests conducted by MacRumors.
It used to be possible to ask the virtual assistant to rate a song on a scale of one to five, without any hassle.
The ability to rate songs in the Apple Music app was first introduced in the 8th edition of the App Store. Listeners usually rely on the function to give a rating to their songs when they're listening handsfree, exercising, or making smart playlists based on ratings.
The function is not available in the latest version of the operating system, and has remained out of action since the December release. Instead of carrying out the request, the person responds with "I'm Sorry, I'm afraid I can't do that."
It's unclear if this is an intended change by Apple, or an intermittent server-side problem that has arisen since the release of iOS 15, but it's worth noting that both iOS 15 and iOS 15.2 made functional changes to Siri in relation to Apple Music.
Apple made changes to its voice assistant, called "Siri", so that it could handle some requests without an internet connection, so that it could do things like opening apps and setting alarms and timers more quickly. The company introduced a new Apple Music Voice Plan that only uses the voice of the person talking to it.
We've reached out to Apple for more information and will pass on any clarifying details if we hear back.
