Mohammad Hafeez: Former Pakistan captain retires from international cricket

In 2003 Mohammad Hafeez made his international debut.

Hafeez is a former Pakistan captain.

He played in 55 Tests, 218 one-day internationals and 119 Twenty20 internationals for his country, last appearing in November's T20 World Cup semi-final defeat by Australia.

He scored over 12 thousand runs and took over 250 bowling pins.

"Today I say goodbye to international cricket with pride and satisfaction," he said.

I'm thankful to all my fellow cricketers, captains, support staff and the PCB who helped me out during my career, because I have earned and accomplished more than I had initially anticipated.

Hafeez made his international debut in 2003 as an opening batter, bowling part-time off-spin.

He captained Pakistan's T20 side and was ranked the top T20 all-rounder in March of 2014, but before that he was the top bowler and all-rounder for the International Cricket Council.

He was banned from bowling on several occasions after being reported for having an illegal bowling action, most recently in 2019, while playing for English county side Middlesex.

Ramiz Raja, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and ex-national captain, said that his game evolved with time.

He became a T20 specialist later in his career, where he was always up to date with the demands of this testing format. His batting took a turn, he nailed sixes almost at will.

Hafeez will play in the Pakistan Super League and be available for other franchise tournaments.
