There was only one playoff spot decided going into Week 17. The other six playoff slots were open after the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West. The Kansas City Royals were the second seed in the conference after a loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
The win made the Cincinnati team the only one in the division that didn't already have a division. The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots both secured a playoff spot, while the Tennessee Titans took over the top spot in the conference.
Things were a little clearer in the NFC this week, as five of seven spots and three divisions were decided. The Packers secured the top seed for Sunday Night Football and then sent another team to the playoffs.

The victory over the Chiefs by the Cincinnati Reds is significant. The top spot in the AFC has been taken over by the Tennessee team. It put the rest of the North on the verge of elimination.
The Los Angeles Clippers won in the late afternoon to eliminate Cleveland. The Pittsburgh and Baltimore Ravens need a lot of help to get into the playoffs.
The Las Vegas Raiders picked up a win over the Indianapolis Colts, giving Las Vegas a chance to win the game. The Colts are still alive, but they have lost the division to Tennessee. The Bills and the Pats are both in.
If the Bills win in Week 18 they will win the division.
The loser of the Week 18 game between the Raiders and the Bolts could be out of the playoffs. The Colts need to beat the Jags next week to get one of the two remaining Wild Card slots.
The New York Jets were able to scare the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chris Godwin was lost to a tornACL, and they appear to have lost another wide receiver ahead of the playoffs.
Antonio Brown left the game in the middle of it. He ran to the locker room after taking off his equipment.

The Eagles entered Sunday night with a chance to win the wild-card spot. The Packers beat the Vikings in a big way.
Green Bay locked up the top seed by beating Minnesota after the Dallas Cowboys lost. If the Chiefs lose in Week 18 the top seed will be up for grabs.
