Liz Cheney said that the House select committee had received testimony from President Donald Trump's daughter, who asked him to intervene twice. Trump could have taken steps to make sure the violence didn't get out of hand, but he chose not to. The White House briefing room is a short walk from the Oval Office. The president could have walked into the room and told his supporters to stop attacking the Capitol. Cheney said that Trump did nothing. He could have ordered them to stand down. He failed to tell them to go home. It is hard to imagine a more serious and significant failure of duty than that.
