AIMMO bags $12M Series A to advance data labeling technology

Humans must label raw data because most artificial intelligence models are trained through supervised learning. Data labeling is a critical part of automation of artificial intelligence and machine learning model, but it can be time consuming and tedious.

A Korean startup called AIMMO uses software and humans to label and categorize image, video, sound, text and sensor fusion data, built an artificial intelligence data annotation platform to enable the data labeling faster for enterprises.
AIMMO raised $12 million in a Series A round to advance its data labeling technology and spur global expansions. DS Asset Management, Industrial Bank of Korea, Hanwha Investment & Securities, S&S Investment, and Korea Asset Investment & Securities were involved in the latest round. AIMMO wouldn't comment on its valuation.

In an email interview, the Head of Global Sales of AIMMO said that the rapid deployment of artificial intelligence for smart city, smart factory and robotic devices is inevitable. Smart city and self driving are our main focuses.
The startup was founded in 2016 and has three data annotation tools: AIMMO DaaS, AIMMO GtaaS, and AIMMO Enterprises.

The startup said that its tools help improve the inefficiency of the data annotations process so that customers focus on their modeling. Users can label their data via browsers like Chrome, without the need for platform fee, coding skills or installation.

The sales and volume of its data labeling increased by 200% in the year 2021. According to its pitch deck, AIMMO had $10 million of revenue in 2011. The company expects its growth to continue in the future.

The global data collection and labeling market size is projected to reach $8.2 billion by the year 2028, according to a market analysis report by Grand View Research.
A number of companies work with AIMMO, including car parts developer Hyundai Mobis, car-sharing startup SoCar, and self-driving cargo developer ThoreDrive. AIMMO works with companies in a number of industries, including smart factory, intelligent surveillance, e-commerce, and logistics.

The startup has offices in the U.K., the U.S., Japan and Vietnam. Chung plans to open offices in Germany and Canada in the year 2022. AIMMO will compete with other companies when it expands to the global market. More than 10,000 data labelers work for the startup, which has 200 employees across the globe.

Playment gives companies on-demand workers to analyze data.

The scale has an army of humans who train self-driving and other artificial intelligence systems.
