A press release from current Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi states that former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will be buried on January 12.
After serving as Nevada's lieutenant governor, he became the state's 1st district representative in the US House of Representatives. He became majority leader of the Democratic Caucus after 12 years in the Senate, after securing himself a seat in the next election.
"He forged extraordinary legislative progress: saving our economy during the Great Recession, protecting families with Wall Street reforms and moving our nation closer to our goal of universal health coverage," Pelosi said in a press release.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Dodd-Frank Act, and theAffordable Care Act were all pieces of landmark legislation that were enacted before his retirement in 2017, according to the press release.
Schumer said that he was tough as nails, but compassionate and always went out of his way to help people who needed help. I will miss my mentor and dear friend, Harry.
