When the Consumer Electronics Show is happening, companies reiterate their dedication to environmental causes and promote their latest, more efficient products and packaging. After introducing a solar-powered Eco Remote for its TVs in 2021,Samsung is back with a new version that comes with a pretty fascinating trick.

The Eco Remote can be charged with solar energy, but it can also be used to harvest radio waves and convert them to energy. It was neat. It is only practical for low-power devices, which is why you don't see it in many gadgets. But remotes are in that category.

The Eco Remote can be charged from both outdoor and indoor light or over the internet. The company says it will be introducing a white model of the remote this year in order to better complement its lifestyle TVs.

The intention is to ditch the batteries. Over the course of seven years, the company has estimated that solar-powered remotes could prevent 99 million discarded batteries. It has explored other ways of self-charging the internal battery such asharnessing the energy created when the remote is shaken and using the energy created when the microphone picks up sounds. Adding RF harvesting as another way to keep the clicker functioning was what it decided on.
