At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January of 2021, the company introduced its first TVs with MicroLED technology, and they were the best sets that the company has produced yet. This year, it is taking smaller strides in hardware and focusing more of its efforts on software refinements and new features.

The company says that the new TVs will come with a completely new home screen that is a testament to their vision for the future of TVs. The Media Screen is the first part of the new user experience. This will put all of your streaming service content into one, easy-to-browse place, with a continue watching section that gathers content from any provider. There will be personalized recommendations as well.

Everyone wants to be your main portal for browsing entertainment, so streaming apps just to play the movies and shows you want to watch is what it all sounds like. The streaming services don't like this strategy because they don't like being able to let others decide what they watch, and as a result they don't participate in either Apple TV or the Google TV app.

Here are some more software additions coming in the future.

The world's first TV-based platform for experiencing live and streaming content with friends and family will be delivered by Watch Together. You will be able to use a camera on your phone or computer to video chat with people you are watching.
NFTs are coming to the living room. The first major TV manufacturer to put its weight behind NFTs was SAMSUNG. The company says it will provide a platform that will allow you to browse, purchase, and display your favorite art.

MicroLED TVs are out of reach for normal people.

The company says that its MicroLED display is now bezel-free. The modular panel technology allows extremely wealthy customers to set whatever screen size works best for their situation, topping out at an enormous 178 inches.

Pre-made models of MicroLED TVs in 99- and-110-inch sizes are also offered by the company. The company is adding an 89-inch MicroLED TV in 2022. You can expect MicroLED to cost more than any of the other types on the market.

MicroLED has many of the same properties as OLED, but it doesn't come with the same drawbacks, like the "organic" part that can limit a panel's lifespan or potentially lead to burn-in. If prices ever come down, it could succeed, but not in 2022.

The MiniLED TVs look better when they are bright.

Since this will be the second year in a row that the company will offer Mini LED 8K and 4K TVs, it isn't making drastic hardware changes. Last year's sets represented a significant step up in contrast, black levels, and gaming performance. The company says it has increased the scale from a 12-bit to a 14-bit backlight for the models in 2022. This is a 14-bit mapping. The TVs now use artificial intelligence to separate the foreground and background subjects, creating a greater sense of depth.

With the many backlight dimming zones, the artificial intelligence helps produce adaptive shapes of light, with the goal of enhancing brightness and contrast. This will bring out details that weren't obvious last year's Neo QLED TVs and make them pop more.

It is sad that SAMSUNG isn't getting on board with Dolby Vision. Maybe next year.

Improved depth and expanded 14-bit HDR mapping will be features of the 2022, Neo QLED TVs.

The first TVs to support the FreeSync Premium Pro will be in the 2022, and they will be capable of variable refresh rates up to 144Hz. The higher-end TVs will have 2.1 and 4K support.

The company is adding a new, more comprehensive Gaming Hub to this year's TVs as another piece of the software improvements. Sean Hollister covers that feature more here. On last year's models, there was a gaming bar that let you see a game's FPS or quickly adjust important next-gen gaming settings, but the new hub goes further and aims to be an all-in-one destination for both console and cloud gaming.

The upper-end TVs have audio features like Active Voice Amplifier, Object Tracking Sound, and Space Fit Sound that make it seem like sound is actually coming out of the screen. At the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it will be possible to pair the new TVs with a range of home theater gear. The latest products from the company will be given further coverage in the coming months.
