The New York Jets gave the wrong play to the quarterback on a crucial fourth-and-2 late in a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The outcome makes you sick, because Wilson should've handed the ball to wide receiver Braxton Berrios on an end around instead of running a quarterback sneak, according to Robert Saleh. The Jets could have run out the clock with a first down.

Although he didn't mention any names, he blamed the coaching staff and directed his ire at offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. Wilson should not have been given the option of sneaking in that situation, according to Saleh.

"They deserved better," he said. We won that game, and we need to be better for our players.

What should've happened was explained by Saleh.

He said that the coaching staff did a poor job of communicating that in the huddle. The play was executed in the way it was designed byZach. If you look at the TV replay, you will see that the game is over.

The Jets took a timeout before the play to talk it over. The coach wasn't available after the game.

"It's Mike to Zach," he said. He calls a play, and says to hand the ball off no matter what. That's all that needs to be said. It was never able to get across. The playbook was executed byZach.

The dangerous runner came in motion right to left. The line of scrimmage was crowded by the Bucs. If Wilson had given him the ball, he would have picked up the first down.

The Jets ran the same play against the Texans, with Wilson handing the ball to Moore on an end around from the Houston 15. That was fourth-and-1, not fourth-and-2. It gained seven yards.

Tom Brady orchestrated a 93-yard touchdown drive with no timeouts remaining, hitting Cyril Grayson for a 33 yard score with 15 seconds left. The Jets blew a 24-10 lead in the third quarter.

Wilson said he tried to execute what he was told.

Wilson liked the play call because it had a lot of different options. I was just thinking to do my job. There was an open A-gap there. We came up short.

Wilson said that he did what he thought was necessary to do. It was in my parameters. Coach LaFleur knows that. It's easy to say, "Hey, I hand that off and we get the first down." Say it's reversed. We get stuffed when I handed that off. Everyone asks why you didn't take the open A-gap. It goes both ways.

Wilson should not have been given the option, according to Saleh, who seemed upset.

"We need to be better as a coaching staff in terms of communicating and making sure everything we want is exactly the way that it needs to be done," he said. We're talking about something completely different, that's a first down to Berrios.

If the Jets had gone for the field goal, they would've taken a seven-point lead.

The Jets were two yards away from keeping the ball out of the greatest player in the history of football's hands. I'll take that yard every time.

The Jets were a 14.5-point favorite and almost pulled off the biggest home upset in team history. Wilson played his best game and the Jets frustrated Brady for three quarters.

"You have to find a way to put them to bed when you're down by a lot of points," said C.J. Mosley.
