Bears defensive end Robert Quinn set a franchise single-season sack record Sunday with his 18th tackle after he tackled New York Giants quarterback Mike Glennon in the fourth quarter of Chicago's 29-3 win.
"It's an honor," the soft-spoken Quinn said after the game. I'm just doing my job.
The ball was recovered by the Giants after Andrew Thomas was strip sacked by Quinn. The sequence came about midway through the fourth.
"My teammates didn't let me forget about it all day," he said. I tried to ignore it and play football.
Richard Dent's mark of 17 sacks was set in 1984. He started the season with six sacks in his first seven games and then went on a tear, recording at least one sack in eight of his past nine games.
He recorded 3.5 sacks against the Baltimore Ravens in November.
The two joked about Dent's 17.5 sacks in a 16-game season. The Bears set a record in their 16th game, not needing 17 next week.
"If it took 17 games, he would have called me and made sure I knew what was going on," he said with a smile. It was funny. He said he started 10 games. He let me know that I was in that company.
Fans and players were allowed to acknowledge the moment after Nagy called a timeout after the sack.
Nagy said it pays respect to all of us as coaches and players to appreciate him. It's important for the young players on the team to see how a senior practices.

"I knew I had the corner when I had that one good jump," he said of his record-breaking sack. I was able to make history because the quarterback was still there.
