The most prominent Republican in the country, Donald Trump, endorsed Mary Miller for the House in the newly-drawn 15th Congressional District.
After Illinois lost a congressional seat in the 2020 Census, Democrats in control of the Governor's Mansion and the state legislature decided to divide Miller's district between neighboring districts.
Miller will run in the new 12th Congressional District instead of challenging Republican Mike Bost, who was first elected to Congress in 2020.
Miller, a member of the ultraconservative Freedom Caucus, has pledged to run her campaign as an ally of Trump, even though both Davis and Bost have solid Republican credentials.
According to CNN, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia encouraged Trump to support Miller's campaign despite pleas from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for the former president to stay out of the race.
She said that she was blessed to start out in 2022. I will always be a fighter for the America First Agenda. This will be the year we take our country back.
The former president praised Miller for her support.
Mary Miller is doing a great job for the people of Illinois. Mary is a champion of our America First agenda and she is strong on election security. He said that she fights hard against Joe Biden's open borders, runaway inflation, and radical indoctrination of our children. "Mary has my complete and total endorsement!"
Whoever wins the primary in the 15th district will be favored to capture the district in the general election.
Democrats have been scheming to defeat Miller for a long time, especially after she made comments at a January 2021 "Save the Republic" rally seemingly praising the German dictator and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
She said that each generation has a responsibility to teach and train the next generation. If we win a few elections, we're going to be losing, unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle.
She said that Hitler was correct in saying that whoever has the youth has the future. Our children are being propagandized.
Miller backtracked and affirmed her support of Israel after initially pushing back the outcry.
She apologized for any harm her words caused and regretted using a reference to one of the most evil dictators in history to illustrate the dangers that outside influences can have on our youth. I will always be a strong advocate and ally of the Jewish community, even if some people try to twist my words into something that is not in line with my beliefs.
During the time that Trump was in the White House, Davis was a supporter of his legislative agenda.
The congressman voted to support the January 6 commission.
If Davis wins the primary and Republicans take control of the House in the fall, he'd be in a good position to lead the House Administration Committee.
