Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel says Romelu Lukaku situation was 'too big & too noisy' as striker was dropped for Liverpool game

The manager has not had an automatic starter in the side.

Romelu Lukaku was dropped for the game against the Reds because of the situation around him.

In an interview that was recorded several weeks ago but aired on Thursday, Lukaku said he was not happy with his part in the team.

He wants to return to Inter Milan in the future.

"I decided to protect the preparation of the match and that's why he's out," Tuchel said before Sunday's match.

The German said he spoke with senior players about the matter.

"Of course we have spoken before," Tuchel said. I spoke to the main players and realized it was too close to the match.

The thing got too big and close to the match.

We have to protect the preparation of the match while we delay the decision.

There is a big match of football to be played. He is not playing because we need full focus to get it. It was a difficult decision to make.

On Friday, Tuchel said that the comments made by Lukaku bring noise that we don't need.

Since rejoining the club from Inter Milan, he has scored seven goals in 18 appearances.

He was left out of the starting line-up at times because of injury and illness.

He has had a recent upturn in form, scoring in his last two appearances after discussions about his role with Tuchel.
