Local cats are attracted to the Starlink internet dishes on cold days. We counted at least five cats cuddled up on one of the dishes, apparently to stay warm and take advantage of the heat it produces.
On New Year's Eve, a user said that link works great until the cats find out that the dish gives off a little heat on cold days.
There may be no avoiding the cute, terrestrial felines as long as the dishes aren't in use. Starlink dishes aren't flat or parallel to the ground so they shouldn't make good cat beds. The angle allows small animals to fit on top.
The creature is comfortable.
It is possible that the dishes attract other small creatures at its various angles, and one user went so far as to use thermal imagery to determine why animals congregate around their dish.
The back side of the dish is warm, even though it looks like the whole dish. If it is ground mounted, you might see animals under or around it.
Birds perched on the rim of the dish could potentially present performance issues. It is not clear if the intruders cause service interruptions because they are in a non-working position.
Even if there are reports of animals sitting on dishes, it would take a thorough investigation to determine if they are the actual cause of the problem.
Starlink causes 1,600 near-crashes every week.
