Liz Cheney said on Sunday that Donald Trump cannot be anywhere near the Oval Office again.
In an interview on ABC's "This Week," Cheney, a Republican representative from Wyoming, said Trump had the power to put an end to the Capitol riot on January 6 but did not despite repeated pleas to do so from his allies and family members.
"I think it's important for the American people to understand how dangerous Donald Trump was," Cheney said. As he sat in the dining room next to the Oval Office, his staff begged him to go on television and tell people to stop. Leader McCarthy was pleading with him to do that. We are familiar with members of his family. We know that his daughter went in at least twice to ask him to stop the violence.
Cheney is a member of the House select committee.

Despite Democrat Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election, rioters were encouraged by Trump's calls to protest. Trump supporters attempted a coup while members of Congress were meeting to certify the results and verify Biden's presidency.
The January 6 Select Committee, made up of a group of Republican and Democratic representatives, has been issuing subpoenas to collect documentation and testimony in its investigation of the Capitol riot.
More than 700 people have been charged in relation to the riot.
