After Oklahoma State completed the largest comeback in team history, coach Mike Gundy put his own label on it.

"This is the biggest win in the history of the school," Gundy said. You are in a bowl on New Year's Day. You're playing Notre Dame. The biggest comeback in the school's history. The biggest win in the history of the school.

Oklahoma State scored 30 straight points in the second quarter after falling behind. The team's biggest comeback was 20 points down against Colorado.

The Cowboys won 12 games for the first time under Gundy, a former Oklahoma State quarterback.

Oklahoma State won the Fiesta Bowl in 2011. Oklahoma State ended a six-game losing streak to rival Oklahoma and made its first Big 12 championship game appearance, but fell to Baylor as running back Dezmon Jackson was stopped inches short of a potential winning touchdown.

Brock Martin said after the Fiesta Bowl that the season would be forgotten if they didn't win the game. We lost the Big 12 championship and then the Fiesta Bowl, and we felt like it would be forgotten over time.

Oklahoma State's quarterback, Spencer Sanders, had 361 passing yards and four touchdown to go with 125 rushing yards on 17 carries. He was the only quarterback in the game to record 350 pass yards, 100 rush yards and four touchdown, and he was the only one to do it in a bowl game.

When the team fell behind, Gundy was optimistic because of the maturity and experience of the Cowboys.

Gundy said his players are veterans. Most of them have been in the program for at least four years. I didn't have any concerns for that reason. I was hoping that we could hold up with the length of the ball on both sides.

The head-coaching debut of Marcus Freeman was ruined by Notre Dame's loss. The Irish have lost in the New Year's Six bowls in all but one year. The Cotton Bowl Classic is one of the New Year's Six bowls.

It's a pit in your stomach for me, as the leader of this program, that you want to bottle it up, and you want to remember how this feels. The honeymoon stage is over, right? It's a great story about the new head coach. It's about having a great product and a great team. We have to make sure that we develop this team for next year. This year is over. We're going to make sure we're prepared to have success, so everything we do from now on is going to be development.

We're going to use this game as motivation. We're going to use this game to remember the first one. Look where we've come from.

Jack Coan, playing his final game for Notre Dame, passed for 509 yards, the second-highest single-game passing total in team history, and five touchdown.

Notre Dame took over at its own 25-yard line with 37 seconds left in the first half and all three timeouts. The Irish decided to run out the clock, not wanting to risk a turnover.

He said he wouldn't change that. "We can learn from it and look at the situation."
