Alan Moore's Legendary Miracleman Run is Getting an Omnibus

The last few years have been difficult for fans of the old superhero. After his rights were sold to Marvel in 2009, the character was lost to time, even though he was created in 1954. It was not clear if or when he would return to the comics space, but this week's Timeless #1 concluded with a shocking tease that Michael Moran would be making his way to the Marvel Universe.

Miracleman needs to return to the public eye before that can happen. The 40th anniversary of the hero's rather reboot from writer Alan Moore is the subject of the Miracleman Omnibus. At a time when the concept was starting to take off, Moore's tenure on the character was noted for its deconstructionist take. His 1982 and 1985 runs with artists such as Alan Davis and John Totleben are included in that. The All-New Miracleman one-shot that hit at the end of the year was the only non-Moore work.

Since they acquired his rights, Miracleman has been a tricky character for the company. The long legal battle between Gaiman and Image meant that his star power waned over time, and it took years for those collections to be released. The plans to pick up where their 1990s run ended quietly went away after the opportunity was given to Mark Buckingham and Neil Gaiman.

What will happen to Miracleman after the tease? Hopefully this omnibus will get that ball rolling again when it releases in September of this year, for fans of the character.
