Betty White, the actor who earned her an eight-decade career and the title of America's most trusted celebrity, has died.

She was going to turn 100 on January 17.

White's death was confirmed by her agent.

White has been certified by Guinness World Records as having the longest-running career of any female television entertainer, having started her career in 1939 on a television show. White was well-known for her roles on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "The Golden Girls" and "Hot in Cleveland" over the course of the next three decades.

She spoke to People magazine ahead of her 100th birthday and shared her secret to longevity, saying she tries to avoid anything green. I guess it is working.

The internet claimed that White was one of its favorite famous people. White is featured in several meme entries, including one that shows the actress not being able to play with Legos past her 99th birthday.

The future TV star was the only child of an electrical engineer father and homemaker mother. The family moved to Los Angeles two years later.

White was one of the first female producers in the business when she was involved with the sitcom "Life With Elizabeth" in 1952.

White told The Hollywood Reporter in 2010 that George would drive him to the studio to talk about what he was going to do. He would write the script and we would film it. We would talk about next week's show when he drove me home.

She earned her first Primetime Emmy Award nomination in the year before the show aired, and went on to win five of them.

White co-hosted NBC's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from 1963 to 1972 before joining "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in 1973.

White was best known later in life for her quick one-liners as the gullible yet lovable Rose Nylund on "The Golden Girls," which aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992. White starred alongside several younger people, but all of them outlived her.

White reprised the role for three other shows and played a number of similar characters on other shows.

Betty White has a heartbreakingly sweet regret about her late husband.

White worked with the Los Angeles Zoo and the Morris Animal Foundation for more than 40 years.

She told The Hollywood Reporter that she needs to keep acting so that she can afford her charity work. I'm the luckiest old broad alive. Half my life is spent in a profession I love and the other half is working with animals. I couldn't ask for more.

She turned down a role in the 1997 film "As Good as It Gets" because of a scene in which a dog was mistreated.

White was sharp-witted until her death, with a wicked sense of humor that made her age irrelevant. She continued to act in television series, including "Hot in Cleveland," "Bones" and "Community," as well as occasional movies, such as "The Proposal" in 2009.

White became the oldest person to host "Saturday Night Live" in 2010 at the age of 88.

White won eight awards in total, including prime-time and daytime awards, as well as aGrammy Award for best spoken word album for "If You Ask Me (And of course You Won't)." She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to Ludden's.

White stayed relevant by doing what she does best and never missing the chance to deliver a good punchline.

She said something about someone saying something about the first lady of television. I took it as a compliment.

I heard her talking to her daughter a little later, and she said that she was that old. White said that she was the first one. I didn't dream that I would be here.
