Colorado assistant football coach Mark Smith loses 'everything' in wildfires

11:04 AM

Mark Smith, the inside linebackers coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, said that he and his family lost all their possessions in the fires that have burned hundreds of homes and businesses outside of Denver.

"Just got word that all of the stuff we had today is gone," Smith wrote. Our home, cars, and everything we had in it were destroyed in the fires. Thank you for reaching out. How to start over and be grateful for our health.

Smith was a member of the Buffaloes for his first season. The fall season at Long Island University was not played because of the COVID-19 epidemic, but he was the defensive backs coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

We just got word that all of our material possessions are gone. Our home, cars, and everything else we owned was destroyed in the fires. Thank you for reaching out. How to start over and grateful for our health.

The towns of Louisville and Superior, which have a combined population of 34,000, were ordered to be evacuated. The University of Colorado is located in the area.

The intensity of the fires could lead to more injuries and deaths, according to the Boulder County Sheriff.

The kind of fire we can't fight is what this fire is. "We had deputy sheriffs and firefighters that had to leave because they were overrun."

Boulder County has not seen much precipitation since the summer.
