Sources told Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday that the Los Angeles Lakers will acquire Rajon Rondo from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are expected to free up a roster spot by waiving Valentine.

Sources said that the chance to play a bigger role with the Cleveland team in the absence of Ricky Rubio was something that Rondo was eager for. He was positive about the deal since it was presented to him.

He was lost for the season after he tore his knee.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and have been one of the NBA's most improved teams.

In 16 minutes per game this season, the Lakers' Rajon Rondo is averaging 3.1 points and 3.7 assists. This is the 16th NBA season for the man who has two titles and four All-Star appearances.
