There is probably no better time to release this one than on December 31, 2021, but it should be no surprise to those following me that my favorite show of the year is none other than Arcane.
The animation series based on the world of League of Legends was aired in two episodes for three weeks, an unusual format for the streaming service, which was meant to be tied with real-world esports events, and as an entire production, it was miles better than it had any right to be Can a video game show be the best thing on TV in an entire year? I think the answer is yes.
I am not alone. In addition to its 100% critics score, the series has the highest user score and highest score on the internet. It is the most well-received original series produced by the company, even if it isn't putting up the same numbers as Squid Game.
The show is beautiful. Fortiche will be back for season 2 of the series, which is one of the most beautiful animated series I have ever seen. One of the best assets of the game is that it works for both League of Legends fans who are proud to see their game repped with such a high quality offering, and for those who have never played a game in the world. It is difficult to do and most game adaptation fail in one category or the other. Both groups have flying colors.

The voice cast of the show is led by Hailee Steinfeld, who had the best month of any actor this year between this show, her debut as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye on Disney Plus, and her final season of Dickinson on Apple TV Plus. Steinfeld voiced Spider-Gwen in Into the Spider-Verse, so she knows how to pick these kinds of animated projects.
It's a must-watch for anyone. Does not matter if you are a video game fan. It is one of the best animated series of the year and my favorite, no matter if you think they are beneath you.
