Rare Colorado Wildfires in December Force Thousands to Evacuate

Thousands of people were evacuated in Northern Colorado on Thursday due to a series of rare December wildfires and raging winds. It is the latest freak weather calamity to cause chaos in December.

The Boulder Office of Emergency Management told about 20,000 residents in the town of Superior and 21,000 in the city of Louisville to leave their homes due to the threat posed by the Middle Fork Fire. The governor of Colorado declared a state of emergency because of the high winds that caused the grass fires.

The Boulder OEM is getting a lot of calls about fire. If you see fire, flee. Go east, go north, but leave immediately.

The National Weather Service in Boulder urged those in affected areas to get out immediately, despite the fact that this doesn't mean that residents should wait to evacuate until they see flames.

Some residents in Boulder lost power and couldn't get their cars out of the garage, which sounds like a very dangerous situation, and the Boulder OEM added in a later alert that they had lost power and couldn't evacuate.

The red handle inside the garage allows you to manually open it. Pull the handle to open the garage door.

A video from a reporter at a local station looked like it came from another world. The area was covered in smoke and the wind shook trees. There are many structures burned to the ground as winds rush through the trees. The intensity and location of the fires burning in December in the West is frightening, even though these scenes have become commonplace in the summer.

A jet stream that has taken strange twists and turns has allowed cold air to drop from the north and warm air to come up from the tropics. Some of the weather has been caused by the split in temperature gradient. Climate change is increasing the odds of fires because of the extra heat.
