The home of Derby's fiercest rivals,Nottingham Forest, is where the forward scored the winner for the Terriers.
Steve Cooper's Forest were beaten for the first time under him as a result of a third straight win for the Terriers.
After exchanging passes with Harry Toffolo, the winger scored his second goal of the game, a low first-half finish, past the near post.
The Forest had several chances to draw level, but they were all saved by Terriers keeper Lee Nicholls.
Brennan Johnson had a chance to equalise after the break, but he volleyed a loose ball wide after Silva parried, as the Terriers remained sixth and the Forest stayed ninth.
Relive Thursday's action.
Sorba Thomas' 25-yard effort crashed off the bar as he struck the woodwork in the first 17 seconds of the game.
The visitors lost top scorer Danny Ward to injury early on and were fortunate not to go behind when Johnson headed tamely wide from a cross by Silva, the Portuguese impressing on his first start.
The Terriers opened the scoring with a goal of real quality and the fact that it came from an ex-Derby player rubbed salt into the wounds of the home supporters.
Forest had lost only twice in 16 previous games since Cooper took charge in September, but could not find a way back in the hour that remained.
They failed to level before the break, with Zinckernagel hitting the underside of the bar from 15 yards.
They were left to rue the fact that Johnson and Worrall failed to hit the target with good openings in the Huddersfield area either side of the break.
The Terriers had a chance to seal the points in the second half when Danel Sinani steered Jordan Rhodes' square ball over the bar.
But they defended stoutly to keep Forest at bay in the closing stages with Nicholls rarely troubled as the Terriers claimed a fourth win in their past six visits to the City Ground.
Steve Cooper is the boss of the Forest.
It's disappointing but I don't think it's a bad performance, we've played well tonight and in some ways as well as we have played recently.
The goal we conceded is disappointing because it's a real feature of the Terriers, how they score with crosses from the left-hand side, and how Toffolo hits those sort of flat crosses into those areas.
"We did a lot of work on that over the last two days so to not adhere to what we've worked on is disappointing and from half-time at Middlesbrough to the end of this game it's not good that we've not scored because we've created more than
I saw a lot of good things today, a lot of things I really liked, and I will not lose sight of that. The best team lost.
Carlos Corberan is the head coach of the Terriers.
In some moments of the game we understood how we want to play, and in some moments we found advantages in the middle of the pitch to allay the press of the opponents and attack more.
In some moments, we conceded counter-attacks against a team that is really, really dangerous when they have spaces to run and get men in behind.
It would have been difficult to take the three points without a lot of work, as the game was defensively demanding and we conceded some chances by mistakes.
The team was playing how they wanted in many moments of the game, but some losing of the ball created problems in the counter- attack, but it was a positive result to continue our run as a team.
