Bournemouth 3-0 Cardiff City: Cherries cruise to win over 10-man Cardiff

In their first away game of the season, Cardiff beat Blackpool 2-0 and have not kept a clean sheet in any of their past 11 away games.

Bournemouth extended their lead at the top of the Championship to four points with a win over 10-man Cardiff.

Ryan Christie's effort found the net after 25 minutes.

Leandro Bacuna was sent off for a reckless two-footed challenge in the first half.

Alex Smithies was the one who got the ball after Jefferson Lerma's shot struck the bar.

The win lifts Bournemouth four points above the other teams in the table, while the other teams in the table are all in danger of being demoted.

The Welsh side were competitive in the first half, but Bacuna's dangerous foul made the contest relatively easy for the hosts after the interval.

The Cherries beat Queens Park Rangers on Monday to take the top spot in the Championship, with captain Lloyd Kelly and Jaidon Anthony returning.

Three changes were made to the side that drew with Birmingham City, with Will Vaulks, Bacuna and Mark Harris recalled.

Kieffer Moore's diving headed on a long throw should have given the Bluebirds the lead on five minutes, but Bournemouth's inability to deal with the throw was enough to deny them.

Lewis Cook's effort was blocked by AdenFlint as the hosts looked to complete a league double over Cardiff for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

There was an element of luck as Bournemouth opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Christie's shot went off Mark McGuinness and into the net to beat Smithies, who was deceived by the deflection.

Both sides missed chances before the interval, with Anthony's shot saved by Smithies and the Bluebirds denied from close range by Travers when he slid to connect with Ryan Giles' dangerous cross.

Bacuna was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half-time for his lunge on Philip Billing, which sparked a melee between the players.

Moore had to be helped off the field on 58 minutes after sustaining a foot injury.

Bournemouth should have doubled their lead when Lerma headed over from a corner with no challenge forthcoming, but they did not have to wait long for a second as Solanke exchanged passes with Billing and calmly beat Smithies to score his 18th league goal of the season.

The 24 year old missed a great chance to double his tally three minutes later, but he fired over from close range after Christie's surging run with 15 minutes remaining.

Smithies could not prevent the ball from crossing the line when Lerma's shot struck the bar.

Christie had a chance to add a fourth with a minute remaining, but he missed.

The boss of Bournemouth told the radio station.

It was a satisfying night, a good result against a stubborn opposition and we had to work out where we could exploit certain moments.

The goal probably comes at the right time for us, settles us a little bit and then the boy gets sent off, so I thought we were in control.

It's not always easy against 10 men, but I thought it was a professional performance, especially in the second half.

This is a good result, two wins on the bounce, but there's still a long way to go and we are going to face many challenges along the way. We've come out of a blip with two wins and that's important, but we have to keep moving.
