More than one-third of NBA referees are in COVID-19 protocols, sources say

The omicron variant has reached a season-high among NBA players and coaches, with 32% of the league's referees in the COVID-19 protocols.

The league has promoted G League referees to fill out the nightly roster of games because 25 of the 70 active referees are currently inQuarantine, sources said.

The NBA has continued to work to limit instances when only two referees are available for games, sources said.

The G League has paused the season to allow players and referees to be available to the NBA.

NBA referees are required to be boosted prior to Wednesday, sources said. Only a small percentage of refs on road trips have not been boosted.

The NBA has been working with the National Basketball Referees Association on ways to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus, sources said.
