It was a busy year when it came to Apple rumors. Many of the rumors this year were accurate, like the MacBook Pro getting a notch, but some didn't come to fruition, like the Apple Watch Series 7.
We thought it would be fun to look back at six of the biggest Apple rumors of the year.
1. The MacBook Pro has a notch.
The last-minute rumor that the new MacBook Pros would feature a notch stands out the most. The rumor surfaced a few days before Apple's fall event focused on the Mac and it was met with a lot of skepticism.
The rumor was true and Apple added a notch to the new MacBook Pros to reduce the amount of space around the displays.
2. There is an Apple event.
The event was leaked a few hours before Apple officially announced it. When asked when the next Apple event would be, the speaker said it would be on April 20 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. It was still a high-profile leak that confirmed Apple's first event of 2021.
The AirTag, a new iMac, a new Apple TV, and a refreshed iPad Pro were just some of the new products announced at the "Spring Loaded" event in April 2021. It is likely that Apple will hold another event in the same time period in the year 2022.
3. The Apple Watch Series 7 has a flat edge.
Jon Prosser, an Apple leaker, reported in May that a future Apple Watch would feature flat edges. The first significant redesign to the Apple Watch since its introduction would have been the flat-edged design, which would have been a departure from the curved design of previous models. When little was known about what to expect, the rumor became the most talked about feature of the Series 7.
The rumor did not prove to be true. Apple emphasized the Series 7's more rounded corners. There are a few possible explanations for why the Apple Watch Series 7 rumor failed to come to fruition.
4. The MacBook Pro has its ports back.
In January of 2021, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo dropped a bombshell of a report outlining for the first time what the world could expect from Apple's next-generation MacBook Pros later in the year.
The new MacBook Pros would include a new design with larger sizes, additional ports, and the return of MagSafe, as well as the removal of the Touch Bar, according to a report by Taiwan's Kuo. Mark Gurman, a reporter for the news agency, revealed that one of the options returning would be an SD card slot.
The first time we learned of new details about the MacBook Pros was in January, when rumors first surfaced.
5. The iPad mini has been redesigned.
In the summer of 2021, Ross Young shared that the upcoming iPad mini would have an 8.3-inch display with a narrower bezel and no Home Button. Young's report was added to the information shared by Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo.
One of the biggest points of contention was whether Apple would include Face ID in the side button, similar to the iPad Air. The sixth-generation iPad mini with a new design, Touch ID built into the Side Button, 5G support, and the A15 Bionic chip proved to be accurate.
6. The new iMac is colorful.
Jon Prosser, an Apple leaker, shared that Apple's first iMac redesign in several years and the first with Apple Silicon would feature a lineup of different colors. Prosser followed Mark Gurman, who was the first to report that a new iMac with smaller bezels was in the works.
Conclusion.
Apple updated several of its product lines during the year. Expectations are high for Apple, as the company is rumored to announce its first augmented reality headset, continue its transition to Apple Silicon across the Mac lineup, and more. It's hard to keep track of rumors and reports, but MacRumors has a guide to help you prepare.
