New York Knicks' Julius Randle enters NBA's health and safety protocols

The New York Knicks announced that All-Star forward Julius Randle has entered the league's health and safety protocols and will not play against Oklahoma City on Friday.

In Wednesday's 94-87 victory against the Detroit Pistons, the Knicks' leading scorer and rebounder, Julius Randle, played in the game.

In the victory against Detroit, which was playing with just four players from its usual 15-man roster because of a COVID-19 outbreak, Randle was limited to five points on 2-for-11 shooting. The Pistons had replacements in on 10-day contracts and another on a two-way deal.

New York is ninth in the Eastern Conference. Under the new rules, he could possibly return next week.

He becomes the fourth Knicks player to be in the protocols. Several other Knicks have been activated recently. Rose is out for several weeks with an ankle injury.

He made the All-Star and All-NBA teams in 2020-21, and averaged career-highs in points, rebound and assists.

He signed a long-term contract extension with the Knicks.
