Passenger Quarantines In Icelandair Plane Bathroom After Testing Positive For COVID-19

This is a positive story, despite the fact that quarantining in the airplane bathroom for hours doesn't sound particularly fun.

The passenger had positive tests for COVID-19.

On December 20, 2021, Marisa Fotieo was traveling on a flight from Newark to Keflavik. She was traveling with her family to Switzerland for the holidays.

She wanted to protect her father, so she brought along several rapid COVID-19 test kits. She took a test in the bathroom after she had a sore throat. She found out that she tested positive. She was surprised by the result of the tests she had taken in the days leading up to the trip. She explains.

The test came back positive in about two seconds. I ran out of the bathroom and found the person I was looking for. Thankfully it was the flight attendant named Rocky.

The passenger was in the airplane bathroom for hours.

The passenger was asked to wait in the bathroom by the flight attendant while the crew tried to figure out what to do. The crew made an announcement reminding passengers to keep their masks on, and also that a passenger had tested positive for coronaviruses.

Fotieo was told that there was no room for her in the plane. Fotieo decided to stay in the bathroom for the rest of the flight. The flight attendant brought her water and snacks.

The passenger filmed a TikTok in the bathroom, which has since gone viral and has been viewed millions of times.

There are two thoughts.

She was quarantining in a Boeing MAX lavatory, which is known to be especially tight, but she wasn't just quarantining in an airplane bathroom.
I wonder if she stayed in the bathroom or if they had to seat her in the cabin.

What happened when the plane landed?

Fotieo didn't pay a thing when the plane landed in Iceland. She was put up in a Red Cross Humanitarian Hotel, which looks decent compared to some of the other facilities out there. Fotieo had a pretty positive outlook.

I am so happy that it turned out the way it did because I have been in this place for a long time.

The flight attendant who helped Fotieo onboard dropped off a special package for her on Christmas Eve, with a Christmas tree, a note, a warm dinner, and presents to open on Christmas day. Fotieo is thankful for both the flight attendant and the airline.

I would have probably cried for 10 days straight if it wasn't for Rocky, and the whole experience was so touching.

Her brother and father were able to continue their trip to Switzerland despite testing negative for coronaviruses.

Fotieo has a news interview here while she is in the hospital.

The bottom line.

It doesn't sound fun to have to sit in a bathroom for hours on end after testing positive for coronaviruses on a flight. The traveler was being responsible, she had a great attitude about the situation, and it seems like the flight attendant at Icelandair really went above and beyond to take care of her. Excellent!
