Eastern Flight 401 Crashed 49 Years Ago

The flight left New York on December 29, 1972 for Miami. The plane crashed into the Florida Everglades. Two pilots and a flight engineer died, along with 2 flight attendants and 96 passengers on the flight. 75 survivors were present.

The plane's auto-pilot was accidentally disconnected while the crew dealt with an inoperative landing gear indicator light. The flight crew didn't realize the plane was descending.

The majority of the passengers who died in the crash were in the midsection of the plane. The force of the crash absorbed a lot of the impact and the mud from the swamp helped prevent passengers from bleeding out.

The equipment salvaged from the crash was used in other Eastern Air Lines L-1011 aircraft, and the book The Ghost of Flight 401 recounts stories of unexplained activity on the airframes that received those parts.

The L-1011 N310EA crashed into the Florida Everglades.

One flight was canceled after the ghost of Captain Bob Loft appeared and disappeared in front of three members of the flight's crew. The captain of another flight saw Don Repo in his cockpit. Repo told him that there would never be another crash. This was not the case. Repo was spotted in the same place as when flight 401 went down, checking on the landing gear in the same bay.

The full video of the TV movie made from the book is available online.

The ghosts of Eastern 401 were seen last year.

There are some important stories of the day. I keep you up to date on the most interesting writings I find on other sites.
