Sources told ESPN that the star receiver underwent season-ending surgery on his left ankle this week and that the Vikings placed him on injured reserve.
Dalvin Cook was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. He will be able to play against the Packers.
He reinjured the injury in his first game back against the Rams on Sunday.
He missed two games against Pittsburgh and Chicago before playing against the Rams.
This season, he has 67 catches for 726 yards and 10 touchdown.
"Adam was battling through an injury and showing his resilience by playing against the Rams, but we're not going to have him the rest of the way, so we just have to ask that much more of some of our other receivers and give some younger players a great opportunity to play and I'm excited for that.
The Vikings' Pro Bowl receiver, Justin Jefferson, leads the team in receiving with 1,451 yards and nine touchdown. K.J.Osborn and Tyler Conklin will fill the void left by Thielen.
Cook was placed on the COVID list on December 23.
