Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium says that the Dallas Mavericks are getting a player inIsaiah Thomas.

The veteran point guard is expected to play against the Kings. He'll provide some depth in Dallas' backcourt after Luka Doncic and Trey Burke entered the NBA's health and safety protocols.

He played in four games for the Lakers, scoring 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

He averaged 9.3 points and 1.5 assists in 25.3 minutes per game.

Los Angeles did not offer him another 10-day contract, but multiple teams were likely to pursue him after he left.

Thomas has never been the same player since a hip injury ended his career in the summer of 2016 and he averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists. He put up 12.4 points per game in the five seasons after that.

The 5'9" guard has not been compensated by becoming more efficient because he lost some of the explosion that made him a dynamic scorer. He has shot from three-point range in each of the last two seasons.

In 18-19, when he was with the Wizards, he played 40 games and hit 78/189 (41%) from three.

He's played 51 games and hit 75/252 from three stops in the last year.

Thomas' days as a high-usage option are over because of the defensive issues that predated his hip injury.

His first game with the Lakers showed he can contribute.
