WHO warns new Covid variants could emerge that are fully resistant to vaccines as pandemic drags on

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, talks during a daily press briefing on the COVID-19 virus.

The World Health Organization warned that new coronaviruses could make the current vaccines useless.

The director-general of the World Health Organization said at a press conference that it was possible that new versions of the Pandemic Pandemic could become resistant to current vaccines.

Tedros sounded an alarm as Covid cases hit record highs in many nations.

Tedros called for nations to work together to improve global supplies and access to health equipment.

He slammed reactionary nationalist and populist political leaders who have undermined equity and created the ideal conditions for the emergence of new variant.

The world health leader said that misinformation and misinformation spread by a small number of people have been a constant distraction.

He noted that the misinformation that has driven vaccine hesitancy is now leading to the unvaccinated dying in huge waves.

Experts say that covid vaccines like Pfizer and BioNTech are still effective at preventing severe disease from omicron. They can still prevent illness, but they are less effective at preventing infections. Booster shots increase protection from disease caused by omicron.

Tedros warned that a vaccine-resistant strain of the virus could mean a new supply shortage.

He said it was important for nations to build up their local manufacturing supply of vaccines.

Tedros said that the health system will be threatened if we don't improve the collective response. I am concerned that omicron is leading to a wave of cases.

While repeating his criticism that rich countries are making it harder for poor nations to obtain vaccines, he said that vaccine supplies are currently improving. The inequity could prolong the epidemic.

Tedros is optimistic that the acute stage of the Pandemic can end in 2022.
