Iran has ordered all of its authorized centers to shut down until March 6 next year in order to prevent power cuts during the winter.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi is the director of Iran Grid Management, the national power grid developer and operator. He is the spokesman for Iran's power industry.

The Middle Eastern nation has ordered the centers to shut down before. The first one was in May when Iran faced a series of power cuts due to higher than usual energy consumption during the summer season. The order was lifted in September.

The ban is said to free up more than 200megawatts of power for use in the household sector.
Cryptocurrencies have been criticized due to their heavy energy use. A study from Cambridge University shows that the world uses more energy to mine for bitcoins than any other nation.

Iranian authorities are cracking down on illegal mining, which consumes more than 600megawatts of electricity. Reducing electricity consumption in offices is one of the measures that Mashhadi is promoting.
