Despite England's defeat in the Australia series, all-rounder Chris Woakes believes that Joe Root will continue as Test captain.
With two Tests to play, Australia has a commanding lead and no one has won the series in three years.
He will become the England record-holder for most Tests as a captain.
Joe is a great cricketer. "Hopefully he can continue."
When asked about his position as captain, he said it was too soon to look at things too far in the future.
When the last Test of the year starts on 4 January, he will surpass the record of 59 Tests held by his predecessor, Alastair Cook.
The England captain has won more matches than any other, but his record of 24 defeats is also a record.
England's batters have struggled, but their form has been great this year. He made more Test runs in a calendar year than any other player in history.
"We haven't been able to hit him with the bat," said Woakes. You'd expect us to put in better performances than we have.
Hopefully we can bat better around Joe and he will have many more years like he has already had.
The captaincy of Root has come under scrutiny despite his stellar form. His decision to bat first in the first Test backfired, while England's selections in each of the first two Tests were questionable.
The England team still backs Root, according to Chriswoakes.
Chris Silverwood has only won one of his past 12 Tests and was asked about the future of the coach.
"It's hard for us to focus on people," said Woakes. I don't know who to talk about people's futures other than my own.
England have lost 12 and drawn one in 13 Tests in Australia.
Stuart Broad has only played one Test on this tour, despite dismissing David Warner seven times.
Warner said it was a great result that Broad had not been playing.
I wouldn't say I was surprised. Warner said that Jimmy Anderson might miss the next game.
"They've picked someone for a reason." He bowls a good line. They went with people they thought would be better away from home.
