T-Mobile was hit by a massive data hack in August. According to documents posted by The T-Mo Report, attackers accessed a small number of customers accounts.
The report states that personal plan information was exposed or that customers fell victim to a sim swapping attack. The customer proprietary network information that was viewed could have included customers' billing account name, phone and account number, and info about their plan, according to the document.
The person who took credit for the summer hack called T-Mobile's security "awful"
The carrier confirmed that almost 50 million customers had their data exposed, with the attacker accessing social security numbers, names, and dates of birth. A person who claimed to be a hacker called the company's security practices "awful". The information exposed in December is less sensitive and likely not as large as it could have been. We couldn't find many reports from customers that said they received notification letters.
T-Mobile is taking immediate steps to help protect individuals who may be at risk from this cyberattack. If you have a question, send us a message and we can discuss ways to increase your account security.
