NFL, NFLPA near deal to cut COVID isolation time to 5 days

According to sources, the National Football League and the Players Association are close to an agreement that would set an isolation time of five days for all players who test positive for COVID-19.

The agreement would include both vaccine and unvaccinated players, but only if the player is symptom free after five days.

The current protocol requires unvaccinated players to be isolated for 10 days when they test positive. If the player tests negative, they can return as soon as possible, either with two tests taken at the same time, or in combination with a cycle threshold test reading that indicates they are no longer contagious.

Over the past few weeks, the NFL has experienced a massive COVID-19 surge. A record 106 players tested positive for drugs on Monday, but the league and the union have changed their testing procedures to focus on those with symptoms.

Over 500 players have tested positive.
