'Widevine Dump': Leaked Code Downloads HD Video From Disney+, Amazon, and Netflix

An anonymous reader quotes a report from the website, which states that a user on the website named "Widevinedump" has published several repositories that allow people to download HD video from popular streaming platforms. The code appears to be the real deal, but the free use is limited and may not be very secure. They seem to be old pieces of code that may not be the most secure. Someone could be banned by a streaming platform if they use these tools. There is a major issue that raises suspicion. Most of the download tools don't have the Content Decryption Module that's included to download 4K content. The leaker writes that people can contact them via email if they buy it from him. There is a free L1 Content Decryption Module in the repository. A trusted source confirmed that this is working. Widevinedump notes that it may not be active for a while.

The streaming platforms do all they can to keep their content secure, but the developer has another agenda. The code was leaked in order to punish some people who shared it privately. "Hello!" My name is WVDUMP. The developer writes that he is leaking the CDM to burn it and punish people who think they are dicord lords. These tools can lead to a lot of trouble and are clearly in violation of the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA. We don't think they will stay on the platform for long.
