India’s business resumption hits fresh record high: Nomura

The Resumption index for the week ended December 26th was 119.8, 20 basis points higher than the previous week's level and the highest since the outbreak of the swine flu.

The data shows that the economy is on a recovery path despite the fear of surging omicron cases.

Many state governments imposed night curfew last week due to rising cases of omicron.

If the restrictions are extended into January, they may affect mobility and delay the recovery of contact-intensive services. A more resilient economy should cushion industry, broader services, and agriculture, supporting overall growth, according to the report.

The government said on Monday that the number of Omicron cases in India had risen to 578. There were 6531 new coronaviruses cases and 315 deaths on Monday.

Mobility continued to improve, led by the Google workplace and Apple driving index, even though the retail & recreation stayed largely flat.
