Mississippi State head football coach Mike Leach said that his former employer cheated him out of a million dollars after firing him.

When asked how long he would fight Texas Tech in court over the money, he said "forever."

Why not? What do I have to lose? I don't have anything to lose. They cheated me out of over $2 million, plus four years left on my contract.

The comments were made during a sitdown with the media prior to the Liberty Bowl.

Texas Tech fired Leach over his alleged treatment of a former player. More context was provided by Kostka.

The scandal began in December of 2009, when James accused the staff of locking him in a darkened room after he suffered a concussion. The father of Adam James approached Texas Tech about his son's treatment.

"James wanted the job done." Texas Tech President Guy Bailey asked Texas Tech coach Mike Leach to write a letter of apology to James and his family, but after he refused, Bailey suspended him. The restraining order was filed to prevent Texas Tech from taking over the bowl game.

According to court records, Bailey said he and the athletics director decided the relationship was probably broken. They fired him for cause on December 30, 2009.

Texas Tech hid public records from the former Red Raiders coach and his legal team, and there wasn't an investigation into how the team treated James.

He has been fighting Texas Tech in court for 12 years. In 2012 the Texas Supreme Court rejected an appeal after Texas Tech's wrongful firing of coach Mike Leach.

The hiding of documents becomes even more disgusting because it shows a level of corruption, and I think that's why I settled for $2.6 million. I wouldn't rule out a criminal prosecution on the thing. We'll see how it goes.

Some of the comments that were provided by Mongrue include that he's been willing to "settle this thing for a long time."

I asked Mike if he was draining himself by the wrongful terminated legal battle with Texas Tech, he said it was, and that he had been willing to settle for a long time.
