The NBA made changes to its health and safety protocols Monday in the midst of a leaguewide COVID-19 outbreak.

The league reduced the isolation time for players and coaches who test positive for COVID-19 to six days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced that people can leave isolation after five days if they are not showing symptoms.

After six days, isolation can be ended, but players or Tier 1 personnel who return a positive result will still be tested for 10 days. If someone regains symptoms or has a cycle threshold value below 30, they must reenter isolation. He reported that players who return two negative tests within 24 hours can leave isolation.

Several teams have been affected by the NBA's recent spike in COVID-19 cases. The season has seen 205 players enter the league's health and safety protocols, with 192 coming in December alone and 169 in the past two weeks.

27 players were placed in protocols on Sunday, which was a season-high. The past two weeks have seen double-digit players enter protocols.

Six head coaches entered protocols this month. Chauncey Billups entered protocols on Monday. Monty Williams was reported to have done the same.

The other coaches in protocols are the Los Angeles Lakers' Frank Vogel and the Chicago Bulls' Billy Donovan.
